For children throughout much of Europe the festive season would be incomplete without Krampus. Gifts and presents are brought by St. Nicholas to reward good behaviour, but bad children are visited by his mischievous companion, Krampus, who leaves behind nothing but a bundle of sticks.
While Krampus may once have been a source of fear he is now a figure of fun and there are numerous Krampus festivals to delight both young and old.
